Fordham United for Core Principles

Statement of Core Principles

We, the undersigned members of the Fordham community, write to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the following core principles:

Due Process – Protection of students, faculty, and staff — especially those who are not U.S. citizens — from arbitrary detention, surveillance, or punishment without lawful, fair, transparent proceedings.

Free Speech – The right to debate openly, express dissent, and engage in peaceful protest without reprisal.

Academic Freedom – The pursuit of knowledge without fear of censorship or retaliation.

Racial, Gender, and Social Equality – A campus that actively opposes discrimination and fosters inclusion.

Independent Scientific Research – Unfettered inquiry driven by evidence, not external coercion.

Institutional Accountability – Leadership that upholds transparency, resists undue influence, and safeguards these core principles.

In this moment of danger, we ask that President Tetlow and Fordham administration leadership at large actively defend these principles, on our campuses and in solidarity with those threatened elsewhere. We further ask that they protect non-citizen students targeted by the government without due process, and that they resist any pressure from the government to alter, reduce, or censor our curriculum, event programming, or research priorities through the withholding of financial support.
